Grace had finally made it. It had taken her a few weeks to get from the hellish streets of New York to California. New York was hell. Demons were climbing and roaming through the streets, slicing, dicing and ripping. The streets weren’t normal unless they were caked with red. That city had pretty much seen it’s last days. Humans needed to flee or they’d be eaten or just played with as little meat puppets. Grace had heard of LA and decided that was the safest place. It was amazing how dangerous the world was getting. Mind you, she didn’t remember anything before she woke up the night of the huge explosion in the mental institution, but she was sure that with people panicking this much and how many people were dying, that earth didn’t used to be like this. This was definitely a recent development.
After stealing a few cars, stalling out and having to walk only to steal more, she made it to California and she was thoroughly exhausted. It took a few weeks, but she had made it, walking more than anything. Clenching her jaw, she now stood in front of an abandoned building. It looked like it used to be some sort of gas station at one point. Canned foods and whatnot seemed to be inside but she didn’t know if she should enter. Grace was a seriously cautious person. Most of that was pretty much because she had learned not to trust abandoned places. Either there were deranged people hiding from the creatures or there were the creatures looking for someone like her to enter in and they’d attack. The odds weren’t that great that you would just find an empty place. Mind you, she couldn’t die, that she knew of - but there was still that chance, wasn’t there.
Sighing, she told herself to suck it up and she entered in. Her stomach growling could pretty much wake the dead, so if she wanted to be able to keep moving or just not be noticed by that, she’d have to eat. The best bet was to take the chance. As she climbed through the broken door, she sniffed the air and looked around. It didn’t look like there was anyone there and she couldn’t sense anything or smell anything off, so she walked around, grabbing a random odd looking bag off the floor and began quickly and quietly throwing stuff in, her body shaking with fear and anticipation. You never know who or what could burst in at any time. It was amazing that there was still food here after all this time, but she didn’t really think. Grabbing anything she could find. She also grabbed a few water bottles, knowing she’d need that to tide her over.
Grace froze, however, when she sensed something. It’s something she hadn’t sensed before and it sent tremors down her body. Something was coming. She could tell by the random pause in the being that they sensed her too. Shit! Grace thought as she hid behind the end of an aisle, staying as silent as she could, her hand over her mouth, breathing as quietly as possible, wondering what was making her senses go haywire and trying not to be too curious to find out.
